BBC Radio Scotland - PIPELINE

If you have decent internet access, there is a one hour long, weekly "radio" show on the BBC Scotland website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/programmes/pipeline/

It is available to listen to, any day, any hour, but you do have to listen to it live on the net, no downloading.

It's dedicated solely to piping (hence the name.. PIPEline).  You will hear some of the worlds best solo & bands playing, as well as current news and announcements from the world of piping.

Give it a listen..

With Faithful dog beside him, Bagpiper finds quiet audience in Old CemeteryAvid bagpiper Mark Henderson practices with Sam, an Old English sheepdog, at his side early Friday morning at Elmwood Cemetery. Henderson, a six-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department, started playing a little over a year ago and practices 10 hours a week. Henderson also strolls the cemetery with his bagpipe at least three times a week. He said visitors to the graveyard often stop and listen to him play.

Class #`1 now forming.

Being realistic, and with only one instructor, and only a single hour in the room we have, we're going to go with a "class" organization for new students.  In this method, we will have a specific starting date for the class. This will be preceeded by a week or two of introduction to competitive piping and drumming, and for those that choose to continue, ordering, paying for and distributing the required materials.

please see the main webpage for "Materials", and our "schedule".

Due to the disruption which might occur with someone joining in the middle of a class, already in progress, we ask that should you become interested, wait a bit and usually within a couple of months, or as time and interest allows, we'll start the next class.

CLASS #1 is forming now, and will officially begin on Saturday July 5th. But don't wait for that day!

David.

We have a home!

well, the ink needs to be applied and dried, but it appears we can formally get off the ground, with regular practice space.

I'm shooting for June 7th (Saturday) to be our first gathering.

Time will be 9am - sharp.

Location?  Recreation hall at Evergreen Presb. Church, Memphis TN (just accross the street from Rhodes College)

at the moment, we have only 9-10am, but with interest, attendance and growth, perhaps we can make a case for more.

Now.. remember:
. This organization is not meant to replace your home band if you have one.
. We're focused on individual and band competition. Competition will be a requirement.
. We accept anyone, any age, any sex, any whatever; but, we do focus on, and heartilly encourage youth.
. Do your homework, show up and be ready to work.

David.

Daily practice?

This is not a post about whether daily practice is good.  It's not "good", its required.

Actually what this post is about, is that I currently spend my lunch hour, about any and every day weather permits, at the Germantown Horse Arena practicing.

Anyone and everyone, is welcome to join, so long as it remains a "practice" time, and not jibber jabbering.

If you know where the Germantown High School is, this place is about a block or so due east on the same side of the road, just before the railroad tracks.  Back behind the tennis courts and playground.

See ya there.
